Registering a Consumable Hemp Product

In Louisiana, the registration of consumable hemp products is an essential part of compliance with state regulations. This process ensures that products meet safety and quality standards set by the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH). Hemp Association of Louisiana can assist you through the steps necessary to register a consumable hemp product in Louisiana.

Understand the Definition of Consumable Hemp Products:

Before starting the registration process, it is essential to understand the definition of consumable hemp products. In Louisiana, consumable hemp products include any product intended for human consumption containing hemp or hemp-derived cannabinoids, such as CBD, with no more than 0.3% THC.

Prepare Required Documentation:

To register a consumable hemp product, you'll need to prepare the following documentation:

  • A complete product label, including all required labeling information, such as product name, manufacturer's name and address, batch or lot number, expiration date, and serving size.

  • A certificate of analysis (COA) from an accredited third-party laboratory, confirming that the product meets the required safety and quality standards, including the absence of harmful contaminants and the presence of no more than 0.3% THC.

Submit Your Registration Application:

Visit the LDH's consumable hemp product registration page at http://ldh.la.gov/index.cfm/page/3387 to access the registration application. You'll need to provide the following information:

  • Product name and description

  • Manufacturer's name, address, and contact information

  • Your name, address, and contact information (if different from the manufacturer)

  • A copy of the product label and the COA

Pay the Registration Fee:

Upon submission of your application, you'll be required to pay a non-refundable registration fee. The fee amount varies depending on the number of consumable hemp products you're registering. You can find the fee schedule on the LDH's website.

Await Approval from the LDH:

Once you have submitted your application and paid the registration fee, the LDH will review your submission. If your application is approved, you will receive a registration certificate for your consumable hemp product. This certificate must be displayed at the point of sale, and your product must comply with all labeling requirements set by the LDH.
